さて、イエスは悪魔から誘惑を受ける為、�猯遶瓩貌海�れて荒れ野に行かれた。そして四十日間、昼も夜も断食した後、空腹を覚えられた。
すると、誘惑する者が来て、イエスに言った。「神の子なら、これらの石がパンになるように命じたらどうだ。」
イエスはお答えになった。「『人はパンだけで生きるものではない。神の口から出る一つ一つの言葉で生きる』と書いてある。」
次に、悪魔はイエスを聖なる都に連れて行き、神殿の屋根の端に立たせて、言った。「神の子なら、飛び降りたらどうだ。『神があなたのために天使たちに命じると、あなたの足が石に打ち当たることのないように、天使たちは手であなたを支える』と書いてある。」
イエスは、「『あなたの神である主（しゅ）を試してはならない』とも書いてある」と言われた。
更に、悪魔はイエスを非常に高い山に連れて行き、世の全ての国々とその繁栄ぶりを見せて、「もし、ひれ伏してわたしを拝むなら、これをみんな与えよう」と言った。
すると、イエスは言われた。「退け、サタン。『あなたの神である主を拝み、ただ主に仕えよ』と書いてある。」
そこで、悪魔は離れ去った。すると、天使たちが来てイエスに仕えた。

The Temptation of Jesus
Then the Spirit led Jesus into the desert to be tempted by the Devil. After spending forty days and nights without food, Jesus was hungry.
Then the Devil came to him and said, “If you are God’s Son, order these stones to turn into bread.”
But Jesus answered, “The scripture says, ‘Human beings cannot live on bread alone, but need every word that God speaks.’”
Then the Devil took Jesus to Jerusalem, the Holy City, set him on the highest point of the Temple, and said to him, “If you are God’s Son, throw yourself down, for the scripture says, ‘God will give orders to his angels about you; they will hold you up with their hands, so that not even your feet will be hurt on the stones.’”
Jesus answered, “But the scripture also says, ‘Do not put the Lord your God to the test.’”
Then the Devil took Jesus to a very high mountain and showed him all the kingdoms of the world in all their greatness.
“All thins I will give you,” the Devil said, “if you kneel down and worship me.”
Then Jesus answered, Go away, Satan! The Scripture says, ‘Worship the Lord your God and serve only him!’”
Then the Devil left Jesus; and angels came and helped him.

更に、悪魔はイエスを高く引き上げ、一瞬のうちに世界のすべての国々を見せた。そして悪魔は言った。「この国々の一切の権力と繁栄とを与えよう。それはわたしに任されていて、これと思う人に与えることができるからだ。だから、もし私を拝むなら、みんなあなたのものになる。」イエスはお答えになった。「『あなたの神である主（しゅ）を拝み、ただ主に仕えよ』と書いてある。」
そこで、悪魔はイエスをエルサレムに連れて行き、神殿の屋根の端に立たせて言った。「神の子なら、ここから飛び降りたらどうだ。というのは、こう書いてあるからだ。『神はあなたのために天使たちに命じて、あなたをしっかり守らせる。』また、『あなたの足が石に打ち当たることのないように、天使たちは手であなたを支える。』」イエスは、「『あなたの神である主を試してはならない』と言われている」とお答えになった。
悪魔はあらゆる誘惑を終えて、時が来るまでイエスを離れた。

Jesus returned form the Jordan full of the Holy Spirit and was led b the Spirit into the desert, where he was tempted by the Devil for forty day. In all that time he ate nothing, so that he was hungry when it was over.
The Devil said to him, “If you are God’s Son, order this stone to turn into bread.” But Jesus answered, “The scripture says, ‘Human beings cannot live on bread alone.’”

When the Devil finished tempting Jesus in every way, he left him for a while.
